How do you walk? People walk in many different ways. Some walk with one foot right in front of the other, some roll their heels when they walk, some people walk on their hands, etc. The Bible tells us of many ways that we should walk spiritually. Three of the ways that we should walk are found in Ephesians chapter 5. "Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, and offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling aroma" (Ephesians 5:1,2). We need to walk in love. To walk in love means to love one another no matter how they treat you. Don't just love the people that are kind to you, love your enemies too (Matthew 5:44). We should love others because Christ loved us and died for us when we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). People will know that we are Christians if we walk in love. "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another"(John 13:34,35). People will see Christ through our love.
"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them...But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light" (Ephesians 5:8-11,13). When we are living in sin, we are walking in darkness; when we are living a righteous life and following God's commands, we are walking in light. Did you know that if you light a match and then look at it's shadow, the flame (the light) doesn't leave a shadow? Light has no darkness. "...God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5). We are to walk as children of God. When we walk down the path of life, we need to shine our Christian light everywhere we go. "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:14-16). Shine the light of the Lord on the darkness of the world. Things that are exposed are made manifest by the light (Ephesians 5:13). "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is" (Ephesians 5:15-17). Walk in wisdom; walk carefully, not as fools but as wise. Be cautious when you walk down the path of life. Don't get caught in Satan's snare (2 Timothy 2:26). Wisdom comes from God (Proverbs 2:6). "When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you, to deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things" (Proverbs 2:10-12). Discretion will preserve you and understanding will keep you from evil ways. If you lack wisdom, ask God for it (James 1:5)! By walking with wisdom, you will be able to escape Satan's traps.
