My heart is on fire and has been for the past month or so. I'm on fire for God. Everywhere I look, I see God's great and awesome power and how much He loves me. It fills me with great joy, knowing that Someone so big and powerful could love somebody like me. I'm far from perfect and yet, He still loves me despite my flaws. I make mistakes; sometimes the mistakes are so big that I think that no one should or even would forgive me. Yet, He forgives me (Daniel 9:9). His love for you and me is very strong; it even saves our lives (John 3:16) I'm a nerd and I really like Harry Potter, so I'm going to make a reference. Lily Potter had given her life so that Harry might live. She selflessly died a terrible death for her son. When Voldemort tried to kill Harry the first time around, Harry survived the unforgivable curse. Why? Why did Harry, a baby at the time, survive a curse that killed his parents moments ago? Love. Lily's love for Harry was so great that it saved him. Jesus died a very painful death for us! He died because He loved us so much. By dying for us, we have the hope of eternal life, we have a chance to be saved spiritually. Without His great love for us, we wouldn't be able to receive the ultimate prize, Heaven!
Pretty much all of us would die for our parents, our siblings, our husbands, or our children. Some of us would even die for those who have been nice to us. But, would we die for someone who isn't very nice to us? Jesus did. He died to save those who mocked Him, those who scorned Him, those who didn't believe Him, those who put Him on that cross. Jesus had the power to save Himself from dying. Why didn't He save Himself? If He could have saved Himself, then why didn't He do it? Jesus died because of love. He knew this was what He had to do and He loved us so much that He would do that for us. That is the ultimate example of love that we need to follow. Love grows like a flame; as the flame gets bigger, it spreads to other things and then the other things are on fire. It can be hard to show love for those who aren't nice, but if we show love to them, somebody will notice that we are different. They will be able to see Christ through us, through our actions and that may be the only time that they will see Christ. We will be able to influence people by being nice to people who aren't so nice. Be nice. Show compassion. Let others see Christ through you. Let your love grow like a flame. By: Jennifer Odom
